I was elected Chair of the Democratic National Committee three months after one of the most painful and consequential election losses for Democrats in modern history.
Thank you for the transparency, Ken. That matters. And I want to say something directly: the problem is not the campaign. It is what the party stands for and who it actually serves when the cameras are off.
When Democratic policies win through ballot measures in the same counties where Democratic candidates lose, that is not a messaging problem. That is a party problem. People want the ideas. They do not trust the people selling them.
Better organizing is good. Earlier investment is good. But until we are talking about ranked choice voting, Supreme Court expansion, full public campaign finance, healthcare as a right, and real wealth taxation, we are rearranging deck chairs.
You cannot be the party of working people while running on corporate money. Voters know the difference even when we pretend they don't. This matters more than anything right now in times of rapidly increasing risks with ai, energy and water usage, destruction of human rights and privacy and so forth.
I am still waiting for the party that looks like the one the Dems keep promising to be. I believe it is possible. I also believe it requires more courage than this report reflects.
The dems have a history of speaking from both sides of their mouth (looking at you, Obama/Goldman-Sachs ties) and pretending people are too stupid to notice.
I listened to an interview with Ken and was just overwhelmed by the feeling that he represents a model that got us to where we're at today - broke and out of power. I hope there is more legitimate introspection than I've seen so far.
It just continues to shows us just how corrupt the system is (when it comes to corporations and special interest groups controlling those who are not the most progressive). They must think we really are stupid. Funny how we say the same about the other party just going along with whatever T wants to do... they want us to be the same way. Not going to happen. The party is either (truly) for the people and in integrity of doing what's right for those who are not in the wealthiest class or they are not. You can't have it both ways and expect to win.
I lost track of how many interviews you took part in where you mentioned that the reason you weren't going to release the report was because it was all in the past and you didn't want to relitigate the past. Now you're saying it's because the report wasn't done correctly??? Dude what is wrong with you? You are so unbelievably untrustworthy. You need to resign, immediately. I never do this type of thing man but you're actually going to destroy the country because you can't seem to lead a charge in WHAT SHOULD BE the easiest political environment for Democrats we've seen in decades. Get out dude - you're having Joe Biden syndrome, you can't read the room and you think you're the savior. You've failed, you aren't trustworthy, you have lied at every turn. You know what would display the most integrity right now? Resigning - this is the type of thing EARNEST people resign over.
How much money was WASTED on this report? This is why we never give to the DNC. They are bureaucratic dinosaurs. We only give our modest amounts to vetted individual candidates who do not take AIPAC money..
You haven’t looked at this “report” have you? It is hot garbage and I’m only on page 9. Whoever created this report did not include the executive summary (it’s blank), they did not include their sources. Their terminology is vague and undefined, and their charts also provide zero sources.
I used to work in market research and whoever provided this report is extremely unprofessional. I suspect that Ken Martin didn’t want to throw whoever created this report under the bus, but everybody wanted this “report”.
Page 9 The authors of this report say that the way to win is twofold and their second point is unintelligible:
“Democrats must accept it is more important than to deliver on what they promise and then make sure our constituents are aware we are fighting for the things they care the most about.“
Thank you for your honest insight. It is easy to point fingers at the opposition, first we must remove the log from our own eyes. We are the party for the people, but we need to clean our own house.
Yeah, no. You, Ken Martin, commissioned this report. That means you signed off on the methodology and deliverables ahead of time. Even if the consultant in question here had an emergency and couldn't finish it, the fact that the underlying data and interviews weren't provided is still YOUR fault. Instead, this is a half-assed product that YOU commissioned, that is YOUR responsibility, and looks very much like YOU are not taking this moment seriously.
I'd very much like to know more information about how this work was financed. You said in your PSA interview that you did not spend money on the report. Who paid for the travel/interview time for someone to talk to 1200+ people? Did you decide not to pay for this after the fact because the final product was bad, or did you not think this work was worth paying someone to do? If the former, why was this important work assigned to just one person? If the latter, do you not believe consultants deserve to be paid for their work?
You've also been talking in interviews as if this report has been driving the DNCs decision-making around 2026 and 2028. How is that possible given how unsourced and incomplete the report is?
I didn't really care about this before the PSA interview, and now I am sad to say there is no way for Ken Martin to repair my trust, and I will not donate money to the DNC as long as he is in charge. What a farce.
I've been a reliable Democratic voter back to Jimmy Carter. I'm appalled that the donations you receive from voters were wasted on a report I could have written in my spare time. This was a profound failure of you and the other leaders and consultants that have damaged the Democratic party and set the stage for Trump. If the Democratic party isn't willing to break with the wealthy donors and address the problems faced by working class we'll face a generation of far-right rule until the party is replaced by a new party that serves the people the Democrats once did.
Ken Martin said on Pod Save America that they didn't spend any money on this report. Somehow. I guess they didn't think this work was worth paying for?
Yeah! Instead of having someone else do it he lied about it. How did he vet this person or people who wrote the report? They had enough time to mark up the report with inaccuracies but not enough to find another company to finish it? His leadership is trash
So you’re saying they should spend more money to finish this hot garbage report when the company who produced it did not provide ANY sources. How do you think they’re supposed to finish that ?
paid a company that didn't do the job and didn't demand a refund or try to do a real one in house. Yeah that's awful leadership. Good leadership would be hiring someone to work for the DNC to do the job right.
He also said in an interview he wanted to focus on the conclusions of the report, what's the value of the conclusions when they're based on faulty information?
This autopsy is so bad he should have thrown it out
The only thing I will add is that the Leaders in Congress don’t appear to share several of these goals. Schumer and Jeffries have intervened time and again all over the United States in the Primaries. They need to get on board or get out.
Not even speaking to the organization -- but any analysis of the 2024 result that doesn't *start* with "Obviously, based on US history & not having fallen off a turnip truck, the biggest hurdle Harris faced was being a non-white woman" suffers from misogynoir so baked-in they don't even know it's there.
Yeah, I've described 98% of the pundit/polling class, and your point is? Black women are a load-bearing pillar of the Democratic Party and the DNC better start fucking acting like it.
- signed, pasty-white woman who has NOT just fallen off a turnip truck
When the highest-profile black women in the party are people like Maxine Waters, Jazzy Crockett, Cori Bush, Karen Bass, Muriel Bowser, Tiffany Henyard, Marilyn Mosby, Fani Willis, Stacey Abrams, Lori Lightfoot, et. al., it should not be surprising for All Americans to have a built-in negative perception of black women. Harris only reinforced that perception every time she tried to answer ANY question in a coherent way. The party's worst problem are the pillars they HAVE chosen.
Respectfully, this is an incredibly half baked report and nowhere near what you campaigned on, Ken. I encourage people to take a look and to demand even more transparency from Ken and the DNC. Not providing the underlying sourcing or being unable to independently verify many of the claims is embarrassing. Democrats deserve better.
I am asking the following questions sincerely, as I have not — until now — been following this story and haven’t found the answers. Who is the author of the report? Why wasn’t the author instructed to complete the report?
I agree with Leisa Peterson. IMO your first mistake was not arresting everyone involved with January 6th the day after Biden took office. You showed you were weak, and not willing to do what was necessary to protect our country. Every time you caved instead of standing strong (Schumer comes to mind) you weakened our party. You need to start looking at the Progressives in the party because they are the future. The old Democratic Party is almost dead and I say good riddens. I am 77, a life-long Democrat, and the status quo is killing our party. People will not willingly go back to the way things have been, and they want to see young blood in our party. I have been marching for the same things since the 1960's and the status quo has been maintained all those years. So you are to blame as much as the republicans (who have now morphed into the MAGA party of Donold). Stop trying to persuade people who will never change their positions on anything and start including all those who vote democratic in every election. Include the working class and disregard the "elite" as they are selfish and will never vote country over themselves. So many things have not been done that would have helped us not be in this position. Expanding the Supreme Court, term limits for all elected officials including the President on down. I am so very tired of trying to drag our party into this century, you always seem to be a day late and a dollar short. As you can tell, I am very angry and shocked at the obscene underbelly of this country. It is appalling.
I’ll save you lots of time even though you probably won’t be objective enough to listen. You lost because you picked a horrible candidate., Kamala just might have been the worst presidential candidate ever. Your message doesn’t matter if your messenger sucks.
I've learned that the DNC has been completely taken over by a progressive foreign entity to topple the US Government. We are no longer Democrats from the 1970's. The DNC has become so radicalized, hateful, and racist that it is unrecognizable to Americans. Really, the LBGTQ+, etc. movement, the COVID lockdowns, the child abuse, the mass murder of children, the immaturity, the satanism, the pedophilia, and mass shooting, lottoings, and riots (pure violence) from leftists and liberals - all completely un-American values. Time for a hard look in the mirror and ask ourselves - do we even belong here in America. So many of us a virtue signalling, but the truth is that we have become the enemy of humanity.
Thank you for the transparency, Ken. That matters. And I want to say something directly: the problem is not the campaign. It is what the party stands for and who it actually serves when the cameras are off.

We can do better. We have to.
Very well said, Leisa.

Absolutely agree 💯 with all of the points listed here.
As do I.
Very good points, Leisa.
You are all and always Commie traitors. You rain ruin and destruction to everyone.

Yeah. He seemed to care more about that than winning elections

You just admitted to bad leadership. Not only is it bad and you lied about it, instead of fixing it you just lied to the public. You should resign.
Ken Martin hired a company to do analysis and this report is hot garbage but you think that’s bad leadership on Ken’s part?
Yeah! Instead of having someone else do it he lied about it. How did he vet this person or people who wrote the report? They had enough time to mark up the report with inaccuracies but not enough to find another company to finish it? His leadership is trash

The DNC is a racist organization.
YOU dismantled the DEI department of Kamala’s campaign to avoid further complaints about proven discrimination.
It was revealed at the very end that someone supporting Trump was working on the campaign —
I helped get his computer shut down.
These are just a few of the mishaps you forgot to inquire with US Black staffers about, and failed to acknowledge.
Y’all fucked with the wrong one.

You all will continue to lose, the American voters see through your anti American rhetoric.
