Thank you for everything you do Ken. I know it's not easy. I'm grateful for the people of Minnesota who are resisting. They really are lighting the way for the rest of us right now.
Thank you, Ken. Excellent post. In these dark days, full of fear and heartache, the resounding Minnesota House victories of DFL candidates Shelley Buck and Meg Luger-Nikolai give me real hope. Thank you for all you do.
Isn't it a good time to roll out a Democratic Immigration Policy? Specifics-how you would do this better. Unless you step up and speak up, you will never bring people to the Party. Well, some will come as you are the only Democratic game in town, but you need to be more than that!
Decades and decades of pushing the ball down the court. The Change needs to come now.
What we see—from lethal force to enforced impunity—is an abuse of authority and a hallmark of authoritarian governance. This is what Dr. Robert Reich had to say:
“The only way ICE should get any funding is if its agents are (1) prohibited from carrying and using firearms, stun guns, teargas, -spray or any other potentially lethal or injurious weapon or chemical; (2) required to get warrants before searching homes or automobiles or places of work or worship; (3) clearly identified and their vehicles clearly identified; (4) prohibited from making stops or arrests based on someone’s appearance.“
Dr. Reich gets it and has his ducks in perfect order. However, Dr. Reich does not go far enough to my way of thinking. For instance:
• Item 1 should prohibit batons, saps, and clubs.
• Item 3 should address no masks and prominent badge numbers.
• Item 4 should stop ICE from approaching (within X feet of or touching) peaceful protestors.
Why? ICE is attacking peaceful protestors to inflame situations in virtually every interaction I have seen. This must stop. ICE has no crowd control authority and enforced impunity has unleashed ICE’s abusiveness and mayhem.
We may be able to abolish ICE; however, ICE must be disarmed BEFORE any other actions take place. Moving a bad apple from one basket to another still leaves a bad apple. I need help getting this point across.
Disarm ICE and the highest risk is fully abated.
We must move to disarm ICE to make it a non-lethal organization like TSA. Further, DOS could take on this role and has its armed guard forces worldwide and a sound security officer training infrastructure in Albuquerque, NM.
There is no logical reason for ICE to be armed. In 20 years, 2 ICE agents were shot and killed by cartels. Yet dozens of ICE agents have shot either themselves or other ICE agents due to weapons misuse or unsafe handling. Further, ICE’s misuse of lethal force on our peaceful populace is substantial, frequent, and outrageous. I repeat this. In the line of duty over the last 20 years, two ICE agents were shot and killed. That is it. ICE does not need to be armed. An “armed ICE” has proven to be too lethal to innocent citizens, dangerous to the careless gun-handling agents themselves, and dangerous to fellow agents accidentally shot by another careless ICE agent.
If unarmed as an agency, ICE should use the FBI, DEA, ATF or state and local police to take care of dangerous situations. Why not?
This is Ken's home state; I trust the timing of his visit was based on the best way to help and not get in the way. Elected Dems have been visiting, but their presence is also needed in their own communities and districts that may be dealing with ice presence.

Glad to see the Democrats on the ground.

You should have gone sooner.
There should be a full delegation of Dems, every day all day.
More of this please, much more💙
Yes Kathryn, more Democrats need to stop by. To be there standing shoulder to shoulder with Americans.
Show you have changed as a party.
Mamdani has figured it out.
Americans deserve better.
