In June, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford won the Democratic nomination for governor.
As Nevada’s first Black Attorney General and former State Senate Majority Leader, Ford has spent his career fighting for working families, taking on corporate landlords, opioid manufacturers, and price-gouging corporations.
This cycle, his “Working Class First” and “Stuff Costs Too Much” statewide listening tours took him across all 17 counties to hear directly from Nevadans.
Here’s a direct message from Aaron Ford about his vision for Nevada exclusively for The Blue Print:
“Thank you, Nevada.
I didn’t grow up thinking I’d be attorney general – or the Democratic nominee for governor! I grew up worrying about whether we could afford the basics.
My family relied on public schools and public programs that invested in kids like me. Later, as a single father at 21, I relied on food stamps, Medicaid, Section 8 housing, and WIC to stay afloat. I know what it feels like to do everything right and still come up short at the end of the month. That’s why I became a public school math teacher, and that’s why I’m running to be Nevada’s next governor.
Over the past year, I’ve crisscrossed every county in this state twice. I’ve sat in coffee shops in Pahrump and Tonopah and town halls in Henderson and Carson City – and I’ve heard the same thing: stuff costs too much.
In Reno, I met a young mother who had been laid off and was searching desperately for work to support her family. I’ve met Nevadans who are donating blood to make rent. In Reno this summer, I got behind the line at Señor Tequila with the owner, Mario, and helped make fajitas for the lunch rush. Between orders, he told me the pay he can give his employees isn’t enough for them to support their families. He’s doing everything he can, and the costs keep climbing anyway.
That’s the Trump Lombardo economy! Nevada ranks second in the nation for cost-burdened renters. Joe Lombardo vetoed the bill I fought for to stop corporate landlords from using algorithms to push rents higher. Donald Trump’s Medicaid cuts will push nearly 100,000 Nevadans off their coverage, and our rural communities will be hit hardest. His tariffs are squeezing small businesses like Mario’s, and I’ve sued over them.
As governor, I’ll sign that rent-algorithm ban on day one. I’ll limit how many homes corporate investors can buy, so families can buy them instead. And I’ll fight like hell to protect Nevadans’ healthcare from Washington’s cuts.
Joe Lombardo, on the other hand, has continued to put Trump over Nevada’s working families. Nevadans deserve a fighter who knows what it means to struggle and will lend them a helping hand.
Just as I have done as attorney general, I will continue fighting for you and our state. Nevada gave me a chance when I needed one.
Let’s work together and make Nevada a better place.”
