How You Can Protect Voting Rights This Weekend
While Trump and Republicans attempt to disenfranchise millions of eligible Americans, Democrats are fighting to uphold democracy and protect the fundamental right to vote.

In March 2025, President Donald Trump signed a new executive order called Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections. While the order claims to make elections more secure, it actually makes voting harder for some people, especially women who have changed their names, military families, and Americans living abroad.
Documentary proof of citizenship rules make it particularly difficult for married women to register to vote because their birth certificates and other citizenship documents may not match their current name. There are about 69 million women who could now need extra paperwork to prove their identity, creating obstacles that could discourage them from registering and becoming active participants in the election process. This would also impact other eligible voters who do not have a copy of their birth certificate or certificate of naturalization and would need to pay to get one.
The DNC fought against President Trump’s executive order demanding that documentary proof of citizenship be added to federal voter registration applications, and we’ve stopped his efforts. So now Stephen Miller’s “America First Legal Foundation” is making its own demand to add this requirement.
While Democrats are fighting to ensure every eligible American can cast their ballot and have it counted, we can’t do it alone. Here’s how you can help:

I oppose America First Legal Foundation’s petition to add documentary proof of citizenship requirements for federal voter registration applications. This requirement would disenfranchise eligible American citizens by imposing significant new burdens. Documentary proof of citizenship laws creates problems and solves none.
Ask Your Friends and Family to Comment
Whether it’s married women or military families, these proposed changes to the federal voter registration application will make it harder for eligible people to exercise their right to vote. Take five minutes today to reach out to your community and engage in a conversation around the impact this would have. Ask them to do their part by submitting a comment to ensure everyone has a fair chance to vote in our elections.
BONUS: Don’t Forget to Register and Vote
The right to vote is a sacred and cherished idea — an essential part of our democracy. While Republicans are making it harder for people to vote, the DNC is hard at work making sure everyone has the opportunity to make their voices heard. But we can’t do it alone. Make sure you and your friends are registered to vote. Do you or your friends live in a state with a critical race this fall? Identify the nearest early voting location, plan a time to go, and make sure to have everything you need to vote! You can visit IWillVote.com to get the details you need to make a plan.
Thanks for fighting with us! Together, we can make a difference.
In solidarity,
Jenny
