Our 2026 New Year’s Resolutions
Here’s what Democrats are manifesting in 2026.
Happy New Year, Democrats!
After a defining year in 2025, we’re stepping into 2026 ready to take the gloves off to fight back against Donald Trump and secure victories for Democrats nationwide. With the midterms ahead and major organizing initiatives already underway, the DNC is moving with purpose as we begin to ramp up for another election season.
We’re full steam ahead on 2026, and are thankful to have grassroots supporters like you by our side every step of the way. Here’s to a strong start to this midterm year and the progress we’ll make together.
The Results of the First Special Elections Of 2026 Are In!
2026 is already off to a strong start! Earlier this week, in one of the first elections of 2026, Virginia Democrat Dr. Mike Jones clinched victory in the Senate District 15 special election, protecting Democrats’ state Senate majority. With this win, Democrats retained control of both chambers of the state legislature as well as the governor’s mansion, with Gov.-elect Spanberger’s swearing-in set to happen on January 17.
Senator-elect Jones’ victory comes on the heels of Democrats’ dominating streak of overperformances and wins in special elections throughout 2025, where Democrats overperformed or won in 228 out of 256 key elections throughout the year. Make no mistake: Democrats are entering 2026 with momentum on our side, and voters across the country are ready to elect Democrats who are fighting to lower their costs and protect health care.
Congratulations to Mike Jones! We are excited to see him address everyday challenges for Virginia families, from strengthening communities to making life more affordable.
Zohran Mamdani Sworn in as Mayor of NYC
Zohran Mamdani is officially the mayor of New York City!
Just after midnight on New Year’s Day, Mamdani was sworn in as mayor in an old subway station below City Hall, making him the first Muslim mayor of New York City. Mamdani ran a fierce campaign to make the city more affordable for New Yorkers. From accessible transportation to affordable rent, Mamdani proposed a vision that makes New York more available for all. Congratulations, Mayor Mamdani!

It’s Official: Mary Sheffield Is the Mayor of Detroit!
Mayor Sheffield is the first woman mayor in the city’s 324-year history. Throughout her campaign, she fought for affordable housing, public safety, and reliable transportation for all Detroit residents. We are excited to see how she will move Detroit forward!
Help Democrats Organize Everywhere in 2026
Last year proved that if we organize everywhere, we can win anywhere. With massive wins and overperformances nationwide, Democrats proved that folks are ready to see change, and we have the momentum to do so.
That’s why we’re not slowing down in 2026. With so much at stake in the midterm elections, we’re reaching voters where they are to keep them updated, informed, and encourage them to take action. We’re working even harder to organize everywhere so that we can win big this year. Be on the lookout for the latest updates on DNC organizing programs and how to get involved this election season!
Quick Look Back on 2025
This year, the DNC is focused on getting Democrats elected to all levels of office nationwide. As we approach arguably the most important midterm elections of our lifetime, it is critical that we work together to secure Democratic victories nationwide.
We have the momentum on our side, and Republicans are scared. Americans made their voices heard in 2025 as they overwhelmingly cast their ballots for Democrats, resulting in Democrats winning or overperforming in 228 out of 256 key elections — nearly 90 percent of races. From winning the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races to reclaiming the Miami mayoral seat for the first time in nearly 30 years, Democrats have proved that we’re on the offense, and we’re not slowing down this year.

Chuck and Hakeem aren't cutting it. We need strong sound bites with outrage.
Along with that outrage, direct action points.
Has the DNC clearly stated what they are going to do better and what they are supporting?
Democrats need to meet the moment and not just ride the wave. It is a very different time.
Americans deserve better.
Momentum is on our side, but we can lose it by ignoring the elephant in the room - the Republican assault on our consitutional order, our rights, and the rule of law. I fear we are over-emphasizing affordability. We can message two priorities!
