Just a week after Donald Trump claimed he doesn’t “think about Americans’ financial situation,” the economy is impacting Americans nationwide. With unemployment remaining high, healthcare costs skyrocketing, and gas becoming unaffordable, Trump’s promise to lower costs from Day One is yet another failed oath from the administration.
Thanks to Trump’s reckless tariffs and war of choice in Iran, Americans are paying for the costs with money from their own pockets. Trump’s decisions have cost taxpayers billions of dollars, leaving hardworking families to reconsider the essential goods and services they need to survive.

Trump’s Crashing Job Market
Recently, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its jobs report for April, revealing that unemployment in Donald Trump’s economy remains high. Americans are unable to find full-time employment, and sectors like the manufacturing industry are crumbling, leaving hardworking families struggling.
Now, thanks to Trump’s economy, inflation is outpacing wages. Any wage gains are being erased due to Trump’s reckless tariffs and war in Iran, making the cost of living unaffordable for many Americans.
Trump’s job market isn’t getting any better. U.S.-based employers announced 83,387 job cuts in April — a 38% jump from March. So far this year, employers have announced over 300,000 job cuts, while hiring plans are down 69% from March and 38% from April 2025.
With the job market crumbling, Americans are still paying the costs of Trump’s war in Iran. The average family is spending an additional $5,000 this year because of tariffs, spiking gas prices, higher grocery costs, and health insurance premium increases.
Trump’s Cuts to Healthcare are Jeopardizing Lives
From spiking the cost of healthcare to forcing rural hospitals across the country to close their doors, the Trump administration has gutted our healthcare system. The rising cost of healthcare is yet another cost of living burden for hardworking Americans, and another blow to the economy.
Last year, Trump’s Big Ugly Bill cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, leaving millions of Americans without reliable healthcare and putting 900 rural hospitals at risk of closure. After refusing to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, the administration hiked monthly premiums for over 20 million Americans.
According to recent polling, nearly half of U.S. adults say it is difficult to afford healthcare costs, and more than one-third say that in the past year, they have skipped or postponed getting care because of high costs. More than 40% of adults say they have not taken their medication as prescribed because of costs. As of last week, one in five enrollees in HealthCare.gov have dropped their insurance coverage this year.
The truth is simple: Trump’s cuts to healthcare are jeopardizing the lives of millions of Americans across the country. As prices continue to rise nationwide, families are being forced to choose between essentials to fit their budgets. Americans are tired of footing the bill for Trump’s reckless choices.
Americans’ Commutes are No Longer Affordable

This month, AAA reported that the national average price for a gallon of gasoline surpassed $4.50, a 50% increase since Trump started his war in Iran two months ago. With diesel prices standing at over $5 per gallon, nearly 80% of Americans feel that high gas prices have strained their budgets.
With the price of gasoline adding an additional burden to Americans’ budgets, families will be facing these costs for the foreseeable future. Trump’s own Secretary of Energy Chris Wright recently admitted gas prices might not return to pre-war levels until 2027.

Recently, voters have taken a stand against the Trump administration and the gas prices that consumers are facing nationwide. At gas stations across the country, Americans are placing our “I Did That” stickers at the pump to highlight the record-high prices that families are facing.
