Three Actions You Can Take This Weekend To Support Fair and Free Elections
From California to Washington, D.C., Democrats will continue to fight for the American people as we battle Trump and Republicans’ anti-democratic attacks.

This past weekend, the DNC supported Texas for All and other national and state partners in organizing “Fight the Trump Takeover” demonstrations across the nation. In every corner of the country, people showed up at their state capitals, city halls, and community spaces to stand up to Trump. In the face of threats to their safety and livelihood, Texas Democrats successfully ignited a national Democratic movement against Trump and Republicans’ attempt to hand-pick their voters.
Now, we look to California Democrats as they continue the fight by sending a clear message to Donald Trump and Greg Abbott: We’re done fighting with one arm tied behind our back. The Election Rigging Response Act is designed to counteract the hijacking of congressional maps and level the playing field to ensure that Republicans can’t cheat their way to winning the House in 2026.
But make no mistake, Donald Trump is not stopping there. Throughout his presidency, he has held the door wide open for Republican-led states to purge voter rolls, shutter polling places, and pass laws designed to keep communities of color from voting. Trump hasn’t just sat idly by — he has actively fueled the fire. Just this week, he took it a step further by vowing to target mail-in ballots ahead of midterm elections, even though he encouraged his own supporters to vote by mail in the last election. Democrats will continue working to ensure every eligible American can cast their ballot and have it counted.
Fighting against voter suppression and expanding access to the ballot is a key priority for Democrats. That’s why Democrats across the country are uniting to uphold democracy and protect every American’s fundamental right to vote.
Ready to join the fight? Here’s how you can do your part:
Make Sure You and Your Friends Are Registered To Vote
Take five minutes today to register to vote or make sure your registration is up-to-date.* Voters can find education and information to help them. Reach out to at least three friends that you think should double-check their registration — have they moved recently?
Have questions about voting? Call the voter assistance hotline, and our team can get you the help you need to cast your ballot and make sure it's counted.
*Always check with your state and local election offices for the most up-to-date changes in voting and registration.
Build Power
One of the best ways we can ensure fair and free elections is with an engaged electorate. Our Organizing Summer is still going strong with people across the country tapping in to fight against Trump and keep Republicans accountable. Attend a People’s Network training to understand how you can engage your community in the electoral process, be an effective community builder, and keep the pressure up on Republicans.
Volunteer This Weekend for Iowa’s Special Election
Catelin Drey is a community advocate and working mom running to flip Iowa’s 1st State Senate District in the special election on August 26. Electing Catelin would mean breaking Iowa’s GOP Senate supermajority, paving the way for Democrats to negotiate bipartisan legislation, and laying the groundwork for 2026, when there will be a governor’s race and competitive House seats in play.
Thanks for fighting with us! Together, we can make a difference.
In solidarity,
Jenny
Thanks for sending us (an army of passionate pro-democracy people ready to work) messages with specific actions we can take in the coming week!
For many years, the only messages we've received from the DNC have been fundraising messages with no effort to put us to work. Many of us have more time than money, so this is supremely helpful.
Please continue to do this. Vary them as much as you can so each of us can pick something we're passionate about and focus on that. Thanks for mentioning a few successes we've enjoyed in each message. It's uplifting and encouraging.
You might invite every reader to list in comments the things they are doing each day or week to support democracy. You might be pleasantly surprised at the enormous variety of actions that bright, creative people are taking.
Thanks so much!
Other democratic governors need to get in the game or we’re going to toss them out on their ass. That’s a promise.
