I don't fully understand this. Why do tariffs effect farmers? Don't tariffs effect the products we import. Do they also impact what we export and that is the problem? Please send me a message at thausner@gmail.com

Because other countries impose tariffs on our exports to them (which are their imports) in retaliation.
