How We Hold Trump Accountable Online
Meet McKinley Lettre, the DNC's Rapid Response Platforms Manager!
My name is McKinley Lettre, and I am the Rapid Response Platforms Manager at the DNC! Last election cycle, I worked on the @KamalaHQ team for the Harris-Walz campaign in Wilmington, Delaware.
Here I am with the full @KamalaHQ team.
At the DNC, I manage our Twitter, Threads, and Bluesky accounts for @FactPostNews. For those who may be unfamiliar, FactPostNews is the DNC’s rapid response social media operation. When Trump says something outrageous or his administration launches another attack on the American people, it’s my job to post about it.
It’s also my job to uplift every time a Democrat overperforms in a special election, highlight real American stories (like the impact Trump is having on soybean farmers), and show how the DNC is showing up to protect our democracy.
My team and I constantly monitor the ever-changing news cycle to quickly respond to the twists and turns of the Trump era. That means I watch every Trump speech, White House press briefing, and even every JD Vance podcast appearance. It’s important to highlight the Trump administration’s lies, so I’m happy (or as happy as one can be) to source that information on the FactPost team.
We work closely with the DNC’s wonderful research team, who monitor cable news for useful stories or interviews. This well-oiled information machine works so that throughout the day, we are able to pump out a consistent stream of content in real time across different social media platforms to reach as many people as possible.
Our @FactPostNews accounts have two main goals:
Fight against misinformation and, as the username suggests, post about facts: Lies thrive on the internet, so delivering the truth is more important than ever.
Uplift stories that show the effects of the Trump administration: Take the ongoing government shutdown, for example. Leading up to the shutdown, we posted daily, and at times hourly, updates while simultaneously reminding voters that since Republicans control all three branches of the government, they are 100 percent to blame. Essentially, we always aim to saturate the internet with the truth to drown out misinformation and Republican talking points.
Our rapid response accounts also serve as a content aggregator. Elected officials or content creators can engage with our accounts, take cues from us on Democratic messaging priorities, or use our clips for their own content.
FactPostNews was one of the first accounts to post about the impact Trump’s tariffs have had on soybean farmers. Once we began highlighting the story, we quickly saw other accounts doing the same, which elevated this lesser-known issue into the online conversation.
If you look at the bottom left of @RepublicansAgainstTrump’s post, you’ll see that the video was sourced from our original post. This is what we want: for our credible information to be remixed and shared by other creators for their networks.
With the rise in social media, the way voters get their information has rapidly shifted. A new study finds that 1 in 5 Americans now regularly gets news from TikTok. As a Gen Z-er, my friends aren’t sitting down and watching MSNBC — they’re scrolling on their commute, or refreshing Twitter on their lunch break. Reaching voters where they are online and being able to deliver the news to them on their terms is crucial to our future success as a party. We can have the best, most persuasive message out there, but it does nothing if it’s not reaching the right people.
If you’re interested in our content, be sure to follow @FactPostNews across social media platforms! We are on Twitter, Threads, Bluesky, Instagram, and Facebook.
See you online,
McKinley Lettre
DNC Rapid Response Platforms Manager
As a retired senior, I’m delighted to learn of the great work you and your staff are doing to get the truth out on all the popular social media platforms.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for doing this work. Sorry to admit, I don't participate in social media, but I realize I am the exception. That is where Democrats need to concentrate. We've seen how it has worked for the opposition. Keep it up and thank you, again!
